5 Lessons From 1 Year of Blogging

From your very first blog, to a year into your journey, everyone has to start somewhere, all while learning the rights and wrongs along the way.

In this blog I will be sharing 5 lessons that I’ve learnt throughout my first year of blogging.

Structure

When it comes to the look and feel of a blog, the overall structure can be crucial. Strictly speaking, you want your blog to flow and be readable in a way that is pleasing to the viewer. For example, a blog post just consists of paragraph, after paragraph, after paragraph, is that something a viewer is really wanting to keep reading, just word after word?

Therefore this is where over a period of time you’ll learn that the layout of a blog is an important feature. Needless to say, adding in a number of photos or diagrams here and there where it makes sense can help to break up the cascading waterfall of words, helping to keep the attention of the reader.

Audience

Starting a blog is exciting as it is daunting, and you just want to get your first post out there, often with a flurry full of words. As time goes on however, you’ll soon learn how to write and keyword your information in the direction of speaking to the audience, rather than feeding through random sentences speaking in first person to oneself.

How you communicate and translate information to the viewer is important, as it will dictate whether or not you grab their attention to keep reading.

Niche

Carrying on from this, pretty soon and quickly into your blogging journey you will need to develop a niche in order to keep your blog relevant and on the straight and narrow.

Having a standout niche is important because it will help you to build and streamline your blog to a direct following of relevant users, helping to create that connection between yourself and the community.

Consistency

No spoilers here, but it’s no surprise that the more consistent and productive you are at creating new blog posts, the better the results will be in regards to engagement and visitors to your website.

Staying consistent is of course impacted by a number of variables, the main of which being time, however use the time you do have wisely and slowly watch the traffic to your blog grow and grow as the days go on.

Patience

Last but not least, combining all that I’ve mentioned above, blogging will teach you about the art of patience. This is because you can’t expect your blog to become an international sensation overnight, far from it.

As with most things, the more effort you put in, the more you will be rewarded. Sure, blogging at first is a slow grind, however once you get into it, and start enjoying it more and more, in the long run the constant flow of visits to your blog will come.
