Photography Doesn't Have to Make Sense

The best aspect of photography is that it is subjective, there is no right or wrong. Especially as a beginner, it’s important to take the necessary steps to build your confidence and learn how to use a camera to your advantage in a way you would like.

These days, for some reason social media is flooded with people giving their unwanted opinions on other photographers, many negative. As much as I’ve come to enjoy using social media platforms, especially Threads, you can always constantly see comments from people running someone’s work down. I don’t know why or when this became a thing, but it’s often strange to see. Moreover, most of the negative comments come from mediocre at best ‘photographers’ themselves which is bemusing.

Although this has never really happened to me, I can only imagine how damaging that could be. As beneficial as social media can be, unfortunately it does have its downsides too. Therefore when starting your photography journey, it’s important to block out the noise and only walk forward on your own two feet.

Once you start to get into the world of photography, the more addicting it becomes and the better you will get. Honestly, the best advice I could give to anyone starting out right now is to keep it basic and to not put pressure on yourself straight from the off. With time and dedication you will improve at a steady rate, taking even the most simple and boring images will give you something to learn against. The main thing is that you enjoy the aspect of photography and the fun that comes with it.

Whether it's a casual hobby or professional passion, photography doesn't have to make sense.
