Visiting The Blue Mountains (Sydney Day Trip)
As beautiful and diverse as the city of Sydney might be, and easy as it is to escape to the outer city Beaches, at times it can become overwhelming.
In order to combat this, an escape into true nature is only a few hours away into the mist of the ever popular Blue Mountains.
In order to reach the region, you can do so from Sydney either through a group tour, or alternatively independent travel. Once here, there are numerous viewpoints, stopping stations and towns you can visit. Each destination is different, and each offer a fascinating perspective of the stunning features and historical landscapes of the area.
Katoomba Falls
Roughly an hour and a half out from Sydney you will come across the first major attraction of the Blue Mountains, Katoomba Falls. As well as the falls themself, options here also include to opportunity to witness and view the wider region of the National Park through various viewpoints and walking tracks.
This will however generally vary depending on the weather, therefore the forecast is always something to keep in mind and an eye on when planning a trip to the Blue Mountains. On my previous visit to Sydney and the Blue Mountains back in 2017 I had clear skies and sunshine… however on my recent trip to the region I was met with grey clouds, thick fog and rain.
As mentioned, there are a selection of routes and tracks you can walk which will allow you to combine the waterfalls with stunning viewpoints and scenery across the mountain range. Depending on how far and long you are willing and/or able to walk, generally speaking the further into the route you venture, the more speculator the landscapes become.
In order to experience as much of the viewpoints as possible, I suggest doing the Katoomba Falls Round Walk. This 3km trail is easy and small in elevation, therefore deeming it fit for all. All the best and major lookouts are within a few minutes walk of one another, allowing for jaw dropping scenes again and again.
The route is best started and finished from Scenic World, allowing you to reach areas such as Vainman’s Lookout, Juliet’s Balcony, Solitary Lookout, Witches Leap, and many more vantage points enabling you to see unique spots in the NP such as the Three Sisters and Orphan Rock.
Scenic World
Once you have completed the route, head back round to Scenic World which in turn has all sorts of attractions and fun for all the family. As its name suggests, this world of adventure hosts a wide variety of experiences and thrills, allowing you to witness the Blue Mountains in various different ways and perspectives.
From above, the combination of the Scenic Cableway, Skyway, and the worlds steepest passenger Railway, will enable you to enjoy thrilling views and a dynamic range of locations within the Blue Mountains like you’ve never seen before. Once you are done with the attractions, immerse yourself within the Scenic Walkway down below, taking you through the rainforest and finally back up to the top station for a spot of shopping and/or dining.
In order to break up the journey to and from Central Sydney, en route and also within the Blue Mountains range there are numerous lunch spots and towns which you can visit.
On the way towards the NP, take the time to make a pitstop in the small town of Glenbrook. Here you will find a small selection of delicacies and bakeries in order to suit your breakfast needs. Heading in the opposite direction and back towards Sydney, take the time to visit and wonder the charming and picturesque village of Leura. In the midst of nature, Leura also plays host to a wide selection of cosy dining and boutique shopping experiences for all involved.
